 How to Approach 2024 for the Modern Player It is hard to believe but the scholastic/feeder season will be over with before we know it. So what is next and how do we approach it? This post is geared towards making sure your player is progressing and taking steps forward with their basketball careers by staying ahead of the curve.  The immediate thing to focus on currently is winning each game one at a time, and getting better as a player and student one day at a time. Players even in this busy season need to find time to practice and get in the gym to make sure they are staying on top of their skills and continuing their development. This includes finding time to do in season lifts and get stronger for players ages 14 and older. This is a season of sacrifice for student athletes as school work, community service, and extra curricular activities are all thrown into the mix.  Tryouts and Beginning of the Season Tips Basketball season is among us. Your athlete has been grinding it out since the spring and/or summer, working on their weaknesses, growing their strengths, working on their mindsets and bodies. With all that being said what are some additional things they can do a week before tryouts and what can they do at the beginning of the season to stay on top of their games? Here are some tips and suggestions for each. Tryouts  Be in Shape: Coaches want to see who has been working in the offseason and who has not. Have you been staying in shape and are you ready to play? Whether your athlete is a returning starter, incoming freshman, or a key player for their program. Are they in good enough shape to play 30+ minutes a night of basketball at a high level? College Recruiting Tips and Timeline (Grades 8+)

The process of getting recruited by a college can be overwhelming. Most of the confusion from an athlete and their family point of view is due to the lack of exposure to proper information and understanding the  recruiting timeline for all college coaches, no matter the level.   First things first, make sure your athlete is registered with the NCAA Eligibility Center (NCAA EC). Before making a list of schools, contacting coaches, or anything similar, creating a profile with the NCAA EC should be your first step.  The NCAA EC ensures an athlete is meeting the NCAA academic requirements and ensure that an athlete holds their amateur status. This step should be completed going into your athlete's freshman year and can be done by visiting the link here .
